Our Technology
At Kalamunda Dental we place great emphasis on patient comfort,
safety and wellbeing. We believe that if a patient is well informed
about all their treatment options and their dental health, there is
less chance of any misunderstanding.
At your initial comprehensive examination appointment, we often
use the Intraoral Camera to show you areas of concern in your
mouth, so you'll be able to see exactly what the dentist sees. This
helps you to understand the reasons for the treatment which we
recommend to you and gives you the opportunity to ask
questions.
Digital X-rays are another modern technology used at
our practice to enhance the dental experience. One of the major
advantages of digital x-rays over the conventional system is that
of decreased exposure to radiation by 80%, making them much safer
than conventional x-rays. Digital x-rays don't require any chemical
processing, so we can see the image seconds after it is taken,
saving the patient valuable chair-time.
Dental x-rays are necessary to make a proper diagnosis of the
teeth and the associated structures. Our naked eye can only see 3
out of 5 surfaces of the teeth, so in order to detect decay early
and avoid expensive larger treatment in the future, x-rays are a
mandatory part of any comprehensive examination.

As tooth decay, gum disease and bone loss may be present without
any detection of pain, two bitewing x-rays are taken every 2-3
years to check the dental structures internally.
Air Abrasion involves the use of a common abrasive with
a pulsating stream of air to clean our debris or decay from the
surface of a tooth. We commonly use air abrasion when placing
fissure sealants as this technique greatly increases the bond
strength of the sealant material to the tooth, allowing the fissure
sealants to last longer.
The DELightTM Dental Laser is also available at our
practice allowing us to do many gum recontouring procedures with
great ease and very quick and effective healing. The laser can also
be used in some cases to complete small fillings with no needles or
drilling, making the dental experience even more pleasurable for
our patients.
