Happy Gas (Nitrous Oxide)

At Kalamunda Dental Care we aim to make the whole dental experience as painless as possible. This also includes the anticipation of pain.

Happy gas or relative analgesia has two main properties and these are the reduction of pain or discomfort and it produces a feeling of euphoria. In plain terms it puts you into a relaxed state of mind where perception of pain or discomfort is greatly diminished and one tends not to care too much anyway. It seems to condense time and minor dental irritations such as fluid collection, gagging, noise and anticipation are reduced.

During the inhalation of nitrous oxide by way of a nose mask, you are able to communicate with the dentist. You can also control the intake yourself by breathing through your mouth and thus reducing the nasal intake.

After about two minutes of turning the machine off you should be back to normal and soon after this able to drive.
